Leeds Vibes | Jeremy Loops Gig |

This is such a late post, there's not much excuses. With the busy-ness of Uni work, exams and procrastination I finally am able to sit down and just rummage through my brain thinking back to this beautiful night in Leeds where I was able to enjoy one of my favourite artist perform!

Introducing Jeremy Hewitt or most commonly know for his stage name and every other social media platform as 'Jeremy Loops'. A South African singer and songwriter, I first came across while watching Ben Browns vlog (YouTuber). I checked out his music and fell in love with his modern upbeats and rhythmic folk inspired songs. One of the unique aspect that caught my attention was the fact that he mixes up his music with various forms of instruments including guitars, harmonicas, beat boxing among many others by looping thus 'Loops'.

Image not own by me.

To cut the long story short, the moment I knew he was coming to Leeds, I knew I had to go. And the day finally came, 14th of January, right after my horrible 3 hour exam, it was a great opportunity to just momentarily forget about how I screwed up the exam and just enjoy a night of good vibes and music.

The night started off with the opening and performance of several songs by Hannah Trigwell, an English singer and songwriter from Leeds. Her heartfelt music left the wooden floored dim hall with a chilled ambience.

Finally it was time for the main act. The lights went off, the spot light illuminates the stage as Jeremy Loops enters the scene busting out rhythms and beats on his harmonica. The crowd cheers on as his charismatic presence fills the stage.
Throughout the night, he and the band sang crowd favourites from his Trading Change Album including the famous Down South, Mission to The Sun, Sinner, Only The Good Die Young among many others.

It was a beautiful night, the crowd sang along, cheered and participated when given the chance. To be able to witness one of your favourite artist perform is truly an experience that I will never forget.
After his performance ended, leaving everyone hungry for more, we were told that the bar might be kicking us out as it was getting late into the night; slowly the once sold out filled hall was empty with only a few fans remaining. Which included me, I stuck around and met Jeremy Loops! He was nice, calm and a down to earth person who took his time to chat with the remainder of us. Bless him!

It was such a memorable night; and I've got tickets to his next show in August where this time he'll be performing at Stylus in the University of Leeds! This is not to be missed!

#KoreaVibes | Summer Highlights |

#KoreaVibes

The kettle clicks off from the corner of the room; I'm munching on some marshmallows under my Primark throw because it's been raining since morning and the room is quite chilly (Typical Leeds ).

It's been 3 days since returning back from Seoul, South Korea and honestly I'm going through some Post Korea Withdrawal Symptoms- The real deal.

But enough of my personal emotional issues, I'm here to  give an overview of my 2 months in Korea. I'll try to keep it short as this post is supposed to be sort of a picture Blog! YAY!

Prior to my summer break from university I applied for a student summer exchange program to the University of Korea (고려대학교) and I got in! Long story short I found myself in Seoul on the 25th of June despite the initial worries of the MERS outbreak.

Throughout the 8 weeks in Korea, I've tried to visit as many places I could; Met many wonderful souls and ate gobsmackingly good food!

These are just some of the highlights of my trip and it is almost impossible to fit 2 months worth of memories into one Blog post!

It's been an amazing experience, especially since Korea has been one of my must go destinations and my undeniable love of Korean cuisine!

Cut to the chase, here are some of the places and things I've done along the way: *Reminiscing the good times* *Whimpers*

Pictures may take some time to load, but I hope you will enjoy it nonetheless.

1. Gyeongbokgung Palace 경복궁

This is a must go "Touristy" place to visit and you'll find lots of information about it on-line. Situated in the heart of Seoul city it is easy to access and tickets are only 3000won (1.6GBP).
One can get dressed in the traditional 'Hanbok' clothing and roam around the palace grounds.

2.  Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain 반포대교 달빛무지개분수

Not a must see but it's definitely a nice sight when you just want to chill and relax by the Hangang (한강) river. There are many parks along the way and it's a normal sight to see families pitching tents and having picnics on the open field. If you have time to spare, cycling along the Han river should be a great way to unwind and get some exercise done.

Beautiful reflection

3. Daebudo Island 대부동

Only for the adventure enthusiasts! Not a lot of information online as it is mostly a local getaway. There are no taxis and bus is the main transportation. However, go to the information centre upon arrival to the entrance of Daebudo for the map of the island and there are several trails on the map that one can tackle. However, it is quite tough to locate at times but the main thrill is getting somewhat lost and discovering beautiful sights and sceneries along the way.
Watching the Sun set was one of the highlights of this trip as well as meeting friendly people who speak no English but would go out of their way to help you.

4. Yongma Land (Abandoned amusement park) 용마공원

First thing that came to my mind about visiting an abandoned amusement park ? Killer clowns! But the hipster-ness in me was more intrigued by the place and photo opportunities. Not the usual touristy place to go but after reading several blogs about this place I decided to pay this place a visit. It was quite hard to find the entrance and was a long walk from the nearest train station but eventually with the help of 'Naver' map I got to the park and paid an entrance fee (5000won) to an Ahjussi and then the exploring began. As expected it was a run down amusement park, rusts and broken glass everywhere but many picture perfect locations. Friends, professional photographers and couples were among the few who visited the park while I was there.
Also, this park was a music video shooting location for one of the K-pop groups but I don't remember who.

Went up a dodgy flight of stairs in an office to the roof for this view. Well worth it!

5. Professional baseball game LG vs NEXEN

One of the school trips organised by the Korea University summer school team where we got to watch the baseball game and take part in the chants/ singing and dancing with the supporters. It was a nice atmosphere as supporters sang and danced to different songs as different players turn came.

6. Soongsil Hat (Ultimate Frisbee)

This was my first ever hat tournament and to be playing it in Korea itself was a very special moment. Not knowing anyone or who my team mates were it was a pretty daunting feeling initially but everything panned out pretty well eventually. Until I landed on my good ankle and was out of the the game but pushed on to play on the second day. Really enjoyed playing with team Kimchi! I mean who wouldn't love a team with such swag?

Picture from team mate Oliver

Seoraksan was one of the most picturesque places I wanted to visit. It's also a World Heritage site listed by UNESCO. However, luck was not on our side when the day we made our way to Sokcho it was pouring down with rain. The rain did not ease up the next morning as we pushed on to the park, I didn't bother taking the cable car ride up to the peak as I was sure there wasn't much to be seen and all hiking trails were closed for safety reasons. After enjoying a cup of coffee at a quaint little cafe in the heart of the park the weather slowly cleared and we went for a short trail (2.4km) to Biryong Falls. Along the way the scenery was pretty spectacular, with suspension bridges and the thundering roar as gallons of water came cascading down the mountain ravines. It's just a shame that we weren't able to hike to the top of the peak.
On the way to Biryong Falls trail

Cue the Cabi bay song ft. 2pm and SNSD hotness overload *ABS ABS ABS*
Be prepared to spend a long LONG time waiting for rides that last for less than 2 minutes. A fun experience nonetheless. Would've been more amazing if Taec-ssi was there.

Wave pool after closing time. 10 minutes ago this pace was completely packed.
9. Gwangjang Market  광장시장

Stalls after stalls of good food. Bibimbaps, snacks like red bean porridge called patjuk (팟죽), jokbal pigs’ feet and sundae (순대) blood sausage. And the famous Bindaetteok (빈대떡) a thick pancake made from mung bean and vegetables. Another must try is the Mayak Kimbap 마약김밥; sesame Korean sushi roll goodness.

Bindaetteok (빈대떡)

Side dishes that really caught my attention and the ahjumma was really kind to offer some of her chilli baby crabs. Taste wasn't that great as it was salty as well as too crunchy for my liking.
10. Noryangjin Market 노량진 수산시장

Visited this fish market with a friend from home and had the experience of eating the highly anticipated live Octopus 산낙지, raw sea urchins, abalone, crab soup and steamed king crab full with mouth watering meat!
We chose the seafood we wanted and was given a price, the stall owner then led us to a restaurant upstairs where they cooked the seafood to of your choice. It was a good and filling meal!
Be prepared to fork out a good amount of money for the meals.

11. Solo travels to Busan

A more in depth post of my 5 days 4 nights trip to Busan will be up soon with details of my travels, accommodation and itinerary. In short, it was a great getaway from Seoul to sunny sandy Busan!

An amazing sunset on the first day at Haeundae Beach

Korea is such a unique country that still holds on to its traditions and rich cultures. It is admirable that a country with it's own language has grown into a successful and developed country. Of course like any other countries it has it's own flaws.
2 months flew by so fast and there are still countless places and things I wanted to do but couldn't make time for it. Hoping I'd get the chance to come back to this amazing country soon!

I'm ultimately grateful to my parents for allowing me to go on this trip of a lifetime as well as the University of Leeds for the opportunity to study in one of Korea's prestigious university (Korea University)

Shout out to every individual I've met in Korea; Hope you're doing well! Peace out~

Before the year ends......
Woah....2014. Where did the time go?
It seems a bit odd that it's not New Years here yet but New Years has passed 3 hours ago back in Malaysia and it's 2014 there but 2013 here.
I'm CONFUSED!                     *Not really*

So here goes the long post of 2013 recap =) Enjoy~   Or don't

Started work somewhere at the end of Feb at a dessert shop ZenQ- First ever job.

Eve's Night!
The gals dressed up in their pretty dresses and the lads had to cook, prepare and serve the gals as well as entertain us for the night. It was the first ever event of such that the Youths had and it was a great success =)

Did some hardcore work out and healthy diet to lose weight. Continued with my job. Went to Hong Kong with my mum! Which was quite a good break from the usual routine back home.

October -December~
Exploring life as a uni student. Making new friends. Experiencing ups and downs
Was visited by Ernesha, Michelle, Han Jun, Tanya and Kevin(my KK loves)
Travelled to Swindon to visit my cousins and family! Which was a great 1 week or so...
Had the best cooked Japanese fusion food by Maya.
Ate till I got sick. *Literally* No fun there.
Missed out my London trip with the other Malaysian Homies. Returned to Leeds!

Spent New Years Eve playing frisbee!
And now 4 hours to New Years 2014. All in all 2013 was a pretty dang good year! One of the best years I've had in this 19 years of living.

Well that was long~ If you've read till this part.
Pat yourself on your back. I sincerely thank you from the deepest part of my heart somewhere in the atrium. If I remembered my Bio correctly.

As for 2014
I've only got 1 main goal and that is to live my days to the fullest. To break this down.
I want to live each day without complaining, without having the thought of ungratefulness. Easier said than done. but, ultimately. I want to live knowing that each choice and decisions and actions I make, it is to glorify God. I want to live 2014 by giving more, sharing and loving. Taking every opportunity I have and making something greater out of it.
Because that's really what matters in life. Living a meaningful life instead of just going through each day with no sense of direction.
No use of a list of resolution. Because plans always fail.  But when I have my eyes set on God and who I am in Him. Everything will follow after and slowly be in place. Of course set backs and detours will occur but in time. Joy and fulfilment is sufficient.

So here's to 2014! To my wonderful family, friends back home, friends down undah and friends in the UK! God bless and Happy New Year!

Life as a Uni student

Referring myself as a uni student *can't really get the hang of it yet*

Hey there, YOU kind soul who's reading this post rather than doing something more useful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart <3

Can't believe it has been 2 months since coming to Leeds and it's almost Christmas break! Which means cold chilly weather, warm winter jumpers, hot chocolate, extra weight *cries*, chocolates and more FOOD!

Anyway, It's time for............................. My journey as a University student! (Warning: This might be boring so you could just navigate to the red X button if you want to =D)

To start with I just got to say I'm super blessed with great flat mates! Couldn't ask for better people to live with especially for an international student. Living with locals is a great opportunity to learn about the British culture and just develop good friendship. However, it would be better if the accommodation was closer to the Uni because I'm starting to get fed up of bus rides and traffic jams.

There's so much things going on and happened in this 2 months alone. Friends from my home town came to Leeds for a visit and it was great to see their faces(I'm pretty sure they had a great time in Leeds)! I'm part of the committee of the Malaysian and Singaporean Society and it's been great so far. I've the privilege to join the Ultimate Frisbee team and played at Nottingham for the beginners tournament where I had a great time with the other team members. Besides that I've travelled to Edge Hill, Bradford and Chester for badminton tournaments. Recently I took part in the Nottingham Malaysian Games 2013 which was one of the craziest time; waking up at 4am for a 2 hour journey to Nottingham and freezing my ass off while playing Frisbee in an open frosty field. Despite the cold I was glad to be able to meet up with a few people from KK! Especially my high school friend Dylan who was awesome in frisbee!

Moving on to a normal weekly schedule, I'm in Uni at 9am most of the days and have classes into the afternoon. Usually in the evening I'd be at Frisbee training, Badminton tournaments or Muay Thai. Besides that I'll occasionally hang out with my AWESOME friends and just have a great laugh over food or drinks and then dread going back. Note: I would just like to point out to those who would be entering Uni for their first year GO AND JOIN any clubs or societies that you're interested in or you've never tried before. You'd be able to meet with so many people and these clubs/ societies always have social activities that you could join. (If you like drinking that is) Self control is what you need and not give in to peer pressure if you'd like to survive your years here.

Basically life is pretty much overwhelming me; I'm pretty happy about coming to the University of Leeds. There's so many events and opportunities that are available for you to take part in and in doing so broaden your mind with so many issues and useful information. However, it really depends on how badly you want it and how serious you are in building a solid future. Everything is up to you and you alone can decide what's best for you. In a way it's pretty scary especially for those who are fickle minded and not sure of what their goals are. I guess it is important to have a mindset of what you want to achieve and set yourself priorities otherwise it is easy to get sidetracked. Easier said than done!

Rant time-
I SERIOUSLY WANT/NEED A CAMERA
Hence, the need of a job TT

iPhone quality pictures does not suffice to my standards anymore; I miss editing and snapping good quality photos!

Next rant-
I SERIOUSLY NEED TO GET BACK IN SHAPE
I refuse to be plump and chubby like the way I was in Australia. It took me 4 months of training and healthy eating to lose some of the weight I put on. It just can not happen! Keep saying I want to go to the gym. Thing is I just can't be bothered taking the bus in the cold. Either that or I just have lectures. I miss sweating! I miss seeing the sweat trickle down my body and my t-shirt soaked with sweat. I never sweat here no matter how long and hard I run. (RAGE)

I guess, that's all for now! Till the next time XXOO
